Chambers County Sheriff releases limited details on crash amid rumors, ongoing investigation
Authorities are continuing to investigate a serious traffic accident that occurred March 14 on F.O.P. Road in Chambers County, involving multiple individuals, including two off-duty law enforcement officers.
According to a press release from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a crash. Deputies initially secured the area and, following standard protocol, notified the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), which assumed control of the investigation upon arrival.
Officials confirmed that an off-duty Chambers County deputy sheriff and an off-duty police officer were among those involved in the collision. The deputy sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Another driver involved in the crash suffered what were initially believed to be minor injuries and was later released from the hospital. However, authorities report that the individual has since died due to unknown causes. It is unclear at this time whether the death is directly related to the accident.
The sheriff’s office said that it does not typically release detailed information about traffic accidents, as such incidents fall under the jurisdiction of ALEA. However, officials say that public concern and circulating rumors prompted the release of limited information.
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has credible information to contact ALEA as the investigation remains ongoing.
