One dead, another injured in Atlanta park shooting
UPDATE: Police now say the victims are both females. One female died on scene. The second victim, a 15-year-old, was alert, conscious, and breathing, and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
Police say there was a permitted festival that had concluded earlier in the day at 7:45 p.m. “At this time, there is no information indicating that the shooting is connected to that event,” police say.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicates the shooting incident stemmed from an unpermitted gathering that occurred near the far west end of the park.
Atlanta police are investigating a two victim shooting following a 404 Day event.
The shooting broke out at Piedmont Park around 9:03 p.m. on April 4, 2026. Officers working at the park heard the gunfire and located two victims — one being a juvenile and another being an adult.
The adult victim was pronounced dead on scene by medical personnel on scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
The juvenile victim was alert, conscious, and breathing, and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Investigators with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The shooting occurred three minutes after the 404 Day event was scheduled to end.
