Smiths Station fire crews working to extinguish structure fire
A structure fire was reported Wednesday evening, May 27, 2026, in the Phenix City area of Lee County.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Lee Road 479 and Lee Road 481 around 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The location sits within a residential section off Lee Road 240, near Lee Road 212.
When first responders arrived, heavy smoke and flames were visible rising from the property. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office blocked off nearby roadways while Smiths Station Fire and Rescue crews worked the scene.
Firefighters initially faced difficult access to the home due to heavy woods and a boat blocking a direct approach. Crews were forced to begin suppression efforts from above before eventually gaining access to the structure.
Once access was secured, firefighters were able to fully extinguish the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
