MCSO arrests two men in separate child sex crime cases
The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrests of two men accused in separate cases involving sexual crimes against children.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Collaborative Intelligence Group (CIG), working alongside the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, located and arrested a wanted fugitive in Macon County, Alabama.
Authorities identified the suspect as John Hunter Blanton, who was wanted on multiple Muscogee County bench warrants. Blanton faces the following charges:
Aggravated Child Molestation (2 counts)
Child Molestation
Statutory Rape
Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes
Investigators executed a search warrant at a location in Macon County and took Blanton into custody without incident. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Muscogee County.
In a separate investigation, MCSO CIG investigators arrested Brian Spargo in Muscogee County on a felony warrant issued by the Phenix City Police Department. The warrant charges Spargo with Sodomy in the First Degree.
Officials said the warrant stems from an ongoing investigation involving the alleged sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 in Alabama. Spargo was transported to the Muscogee County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Russell County, Alabama.
“The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate crimes of this nature against our children,” the agency said in a statement. “We remain committed to locating and arresting wanted offenders to ensure the safety of those in our community.”
Both cases remain under investigation.
