Columbus Public Works to host hazardous household waste recycling event Saturday
Columbus Public Works will host a hazardous household waste recycling event this Saturday, October 10, giving Columbus residents an opportunity to safely dispose of a variety of household chemicals, electronics, automotive products and other potentially hazardous materials.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. until noon at the Columbus Recycling Center, located at 8001 Pine Grove Way in Columbus.
The event is open only to Columbus, Georgia, residents, and an ID is required.
According to Columbus Public Works, accepted household hazardous waste items include cleaning products such as bleach, ammonia, all-purpose cleaners, furniture polish, spot removers, oven cleaner, bathroom cleaners and bug spray.
Residents can also bring lawn care chemicals, including fertilizers, pesticides, pool chemicals, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides.
Paint and solvents accepted include latex paint, oil-based paint, furniture stripper and paint thinners. The event will also accept certain electronics, including computers, printers, fax machines, copiers and consumer electronics. However, televisions will not be accepted.
Automotive products that can be brought to the event include motor oil, oil filters, gasoline, antifreeze, lubricants, car batteries, brake fluid, transmission fluid, car wax, metal polish and light bulbs.
Columbus Public Works is also encouraging residents to bring their gently used shoes to be recycled as part of the 2026 KCBC Shoe Recycle Campaign.
Officials say the event is intended to provide residents with a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of materials that should not simply be placed in regular household garbage.
