Tuskegee University closes campus Friday ahead of Hurricane Isaias
Tuskegee University has announced it will close its campus on Friday, October 9, as university leaders monitor forecasts for Hurricane Isaias and its potential impacts on Macon County.
University officials said the safety of the campus community remains the top priority. Classes will be canceled Friday, and only essential employees, including police, cafeteria and Facilities personnel, should report to work.
Despite the closure, students will still have access to the cafeteria in Tompkins Hall during its regular operating schedule on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Students are being asked to limit their activities on campus as heavy rain and strong winds are expected.
University officials will continue monitoring weather conditions and provide additional updates as necessary.
In the event of an emergency, students should contact the Tuskegee University Police Department at 334-724-4911. For non-emergency matters, TUPD can be reached at 334-727-8757.
The university also encourages members of the campus community to use the RAVE app to contact campus police, as the app can provide officers with the user’s GPS location.
CNAW2News.com will continue monitoring Hurricane Isaias and its potential impacts across East Alabama and West Georgia.
