Chambers County Detention Facility inmate death under investigation
A Cusseta man died in a Chambers County detention facility on Sunday and state investigators have been asked to investigate as per protocol.
The man, later identified as 23-year-old Christian Wayne Strickland, was arrested by Valley Police Department for public intoxication. Strickland was placed in a holding cell under observation at the Chambers County Detention Facility. Shortly after arrival, Strickland began to convulse and medical personnel responded and administered Narcan. Strickland was then transported to East Alabama Medical Center.
After many lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead by the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
“As with any in-custody death, Sheriff Nelson asked the ALEA State Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation,” the sheriff’s office said. “No further information will be released until the investigation is completed.”
