Suspect arrested in I-185 crash involving dog house in Columbus
A suspect has been arrested by Muscogee County investigators after fleeing from a serious crash this week on busy I-185.
The suspect, later identified as Marcel Hawkins, was arrested by the sheriff’s office in connection with the motor vehicle accident on I-185 on June 12, 2023, that left two individuals seriously injured.
Hawkins was charged with leaving the scene of the accident, duty to report an accident, unsecured load, and reckless conduct.
“We want to thank the hard work of our Motor Units and Deputies who were called to work on this horrible vehicle accident,” the sheriff’s office said. “Marcel Hawkins knowingly left the scene, after a dog house fell from a pickup truck he was driving, causing two vehicles to collide. We also want to say thank you to the good Citizens of Muscogee County who shared what they knew about this careless act so that Marcel Hawkins could be brought into custody.”
