Russell County Sheriff’s Office investigate Hurtsboro Dollar General homicide
Russell County Sheriff’s Office investigators are investigating a Wednesday night homicide.
The incident took place at the Dollar General on Gregory Street in Hurtsboro on August 16, 2023. Russell County Arthur Sumbry Jr says the victim is a 43-year-old male who was pronounced dead at 11:02 P.M. Investigators identified the man as Petorey Naquan Varner.
A 16-year-old juvenile was charged with Capital Murder During the Commission of Robbery, Capital Murder During the Commission of Shooting Into an Occupied Vehicle, two counts of Attempted Murder and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Pistol.
The victim will be transported to Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy. This is a developing story.
