LaGrange Police: First gun buyback event leads to 227 firearms being collected
The LaGrange Police Department’s first gun buyback event concluded with an amazing turnout.
The police department began the event with a parking lot full of citizens on Thursday, October 12, 2023 starting at 12:00PM. “Admittedly we did not plan for such a large turnout. Other events like this that I’ve participated in around the state did not have near this many folks. It was good to see so many good folks participate.” said Chief Garrett Fiveash.
Overall the police department collected 75 revolvers, 13 breach break guns, 50 shot guns, 50 semi-auto pistols, and 39 rifles for a total of 227 firearms. “These are guns that won’t be on the streets to be used in a crime.” said Lieutenant Pritchett
“The police department extends a special thanks to Sergeant Brian Brown and Master Detective Adam Blane, two of the department’s firearms instructors. These two worked with the citizens to physically collect the firearms and continued to work after the event to get the weapons logged into safe keeping within the building,” police said.
The police department will hold the weapons as it works through processes that involve some internal procedures and eventually the weapons will be destroyed.
