Sheriff: Altercation involving students leads to gun being pulled on grounds of Smiths Station High School
An investigation was underway Thursday night by Lee County Sheriff’s Office after an altercation occurred on the grounds of Smiths Station High School.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirmed there was an altercation after school hours at the school involving a few students.
During the altercation, one student went to a vehicle and obtained a firearm. “The student attempted to enter the school but was blocked by school personnel,” Sheriff Jay Jones said. “The armed student went back to [their] vehicle and left the school.”
A Deputy sheriff responding to the altercation was able to stop the vehicle just as it was leaving the school and a student was arrested, with a firearm being seized.
Sheriff Jay Jones says warrants are to be issued for possession of deadly weapon on school property with intent to do harm, terroristic threats and menacing.
“The incident is isolated to a specific situation and circumstances of the investigation indicate no other threat to students or school personnel,” Sheriff Jay Jones added. This remains a developing story.
