Phenix Lumber Company loses business license after violating fire codes, officials say
CNAW2News.com has learned today that Phenix Lumber Company has lost their business license after violating fire codes, according to authorities.
Today, Phenix City Council held a meeting and on the agenda they planned on holding an administrative hearing for the revocation of business license for Phenix Lumber Company, as well as a resolution for the revocation.
Our reporter spoke with Phenix City Fire Chief Kristin Kennedy who says the removal of the business license was due to violations of the fire code. Kennedy told us the department had been working with the owners over the past few months on the violations, but the violations were never corrected.
One of the violations included the lumber company using a water supply line that the fire department supplies to put out fires for their mill operation. That water is only to be used in the event of a fire and is not supposed to be used in the operation of the business.
Based on the violations, the city council voted to revoke their business license and will remain revoked until the violations are corrected.
The revocation comes nearly four months after employee, 67-year-old James Streetman, who died after getting stuck inside of a piece of equipment.
On May 27, 2020, Brandon Lee Vandyke was found deceased inside of a piece of equipment.
We are continuing to work to learn more information regarding this.
