Coweta County Deputy dies after being struck by law enforcement vehicle at end of chase
A Georgia deputy is deceased after being struck by a law enforcement vehicle at the end of a high speed pursuit overnight.
Coweta County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix died in the line of duty in the early hours of Thursday, January 4, 2024.
Minix was struck by a Lanett police officer during the apprehension of the suspect who led law enforcement on a pursuit from Coweta County, Georgia to Chambers County, Alabama. Several Georgia agencies were involved in the pursuit involving a driver who allegedly stolen a vehicle, Lanett police said.
Minix was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
“DS Eric Minix was a dedicated Deputy and K9 Officer, but more importantly, he was a friend to everyone who knew him,” the sheriff’s office added. “We have lost a good deputy. We have lost a good man. We have lost a good friend.” Minix leaves behind a loving wife and three daughters.
The pursuit suspect was placed in custody. The Lanett Police Officer has been put on administrative leave while pending an investigation by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. A procession to transport Minix back Coweta County, Georgia occurred this morning.
