Eufaula City Schools cancel classes on Monday after “tragic event”
Eufaula City Schools have canceled classes for Monday after a “tragic event” in the city, the district announced on Sunday night.
The district said schools will be closed on Monday, January 8th, and Tuesday, January 9th. All extracurricular activities are canceled as well.
“Due to the tragic events that have occurred in our community this afternoon and after conferring with local law enforcement, we are allowing them to conduct further investigations into the tragic events,” the district added. “If any students or staff would like to receive counseling services, please call your local school or our mental health coordinator, Rasheema Warren, at 334-695-3650. We apologize for any inconvenience, but the safety of students and staff is our top priority.”
This comes hours after a shooting was reported in the city. RickyStokesNews.com says a juvenile under the age of 21 is deceased after being found in the parking lot at the Medical Center Barbour Hospital with a gunshot wound.
This remains a developing story.
