2024 Election: Acting DA Don Kelly intends to qualify to run for Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney
The upcoming election this year is right around the corner and news is being released today regarding the race for the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney seat.
Acting District Attorney Don Kelly intends to qualify to run for the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit District Attorney in the 2024 election. The announcement comes after meeting with District Attorney Stacey Jackson and his family this morning, a press release said this afternoon.
Mr. Kelly has worked as a prosecutor for 22 years, working closely with attorneys, judges, and law enforcement officials in all six counties of the circuit. He was hired as the Chief Assistant District Attorney by Mr. Jackson in 2022 and became Acting District Attorney when Mr. Jackson filed a medical leave on November 27, 2023.
Mr. Kelly said, “I am disappointed that Mr. Jackson is not able to run in this election. We started the task of rebuilding the District Attorney’s Office together, and I plan to continue and build upon his solid record of service to the citizens of our circuit. It is a record of accomplishment in which Mr. Jackson and his family can take immense pride.”
“I will continue to focus on public safety, especially violent crimes, by holding those who commit crimes in our circuit responsible for their actions. I believe that my experience as a career prosecutor and my knowledge of our circuit makes me uniquely qualified to lead the office as we deal with the surge in violent crime that followed the last election.”
Mr. Kelly grew up in Columbus and is a graduate of Hardaway High School, the University of Georgia, and Georgia State University College of Law. He is married and attends St. Paul UMC.
