Opelika man killed in Salem crash overnight
An Opelika man has died after an overnight crash in the Salem community of Lee County.
The crash occurred around 12:01 A.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the 7800 block of Lee Road 145 just two miles from U.S. Highway 280. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says 51-year-old Orlando R. Welch was fatally injured when the 2002 Buick Park Avenue he was driving left the roadway, struck a stone column, and overturned.
Welch was pronounced dead on scene. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
