Columbus mom jailed in child abuse case involving a year old boy
A Columbus mother has been arrested in a child abuse investigation.
The investigation began after Columbus Police officers were dispatched to Bull Creek Apartments to assist the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in response to suspected child abuse on May 3rd of this year. The case involved a 1-year-old boy who was diagnosed with two brain bleeds by doctors at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta.
CPD’s Special Victim’s Unit, in collaboration with DFCS, initiated the investigation into the incident. “The investigation revealed that the child’s mother and primary caretaker, Emily Henry, was aware of the child’s symptoms in the days leading up to his admission to Piedmont Columbus Regional,” police said. “The delay in seeking medical attention, which was initiated by third parties rather than the primary caretaker, was deemed neglectful.”
As a result, a warrant was issued for Emily Henry for Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree (Family Violence).
Henry was arrested and transported to the Muscogee County Jail on May 31, 2024. She is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 9 a.m.
