Prank call involving alleged shooting at Fort Moore under investigation
A very chaotic Wednesday afternoon on Fort Moore after the Directorate of Emergency Services responded to a report of a shooting and barricaded subject inside an on-post, duplex residence today.
“The report was proven false,” the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Moore said in a social media post. The report involved a 9-1-1 caller who claimed to have shot two individuals at home and subsequently barricaded themselves inside at around 1:15 P.M. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
Law enforcement officials fully responded to the scene to protect the safety of the community and to investigate this report.
“Our findings at the scene support the conclusion this was a prank,” said Kevin Clarke, director of Fort Moore Emergency Services. “Our forces responded quickly and appropriately to the report and established a cordon around the location to ensure the safety of the public was maintained,” he said.
Upon entering the home, officials confirmed no threat or evidence of an incident was present. After clearing both units in the duplex residence, law enforcement issued an all clear at the scene shortly before 2 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
