Hurricane Debby: CFEMS deploys members for search and rescue operations in east Georgia
Columbus Fire and EMS is one of many agencies being deployed to assist in search and rescue operations preparations as Hurricane Debby is expected to bring heavy rain and historic flooding to parts of east Georgia.
Columbus Fire Marshal and Division Chief John Shull confirmed they deployed 16 firefighters from the Georgia Search and Rescue team, which is represented by several agencies. They were deployed around noon today.
“They are headed to Statesboro where they will stage and wait for an announcement,” Shull added,
Ten to twenty inches of rainfall from Debby is expected to fall across portions of southeast Georgia, the coastal plain of South Carolina, and southeast North Carolina, with local amounts to 30 inches, are expected through Saturday morning. “This potentially historic rainfall will likely result in areas of catastrophic flooding,” the National Weather Service said.
