False alarm at Tiger Town McDonald’s highlights importance of Accurate 911 reporting
Opelika Police Department are sounding the alarm after a caller reported false information regarding a possible shooting at a busy fast food joint.
The department received a 911 call reporting shots fired at 12:38 pm on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the McDonalds in Tiger Town. The caller reported that someone had possibly been shot and people were fleeing the business.
Within a minute, multiple officers arrived on the scene and quickly determined that no weapons had been discharged and no one had been shot.
Employees at the restaurant explained that there had been an argument between two individuals, but no weapons were involved.
“This incident highlights the critical importance of providing accurate and up-to-date information to dispatchers. A false report of a shooting can divert significant resources away from other emergencies and potentially put citizens and officers at risk due to the level of response,” police said. “It is important to understand that false reporting or misleading authorities can potentially lead to criminal charges. We will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this call to determine if any further action is necessary.”
