Real Time Crime Center helps solve critical Columbus case
Columbus police say their Real-Time Crime Center is continuing to help solve crimes. Just recently, the center helped solve hit-and-run in record time.
The hit-and-run occurred on October 1, 2024 at Cusseta Road and 23rd Avenue. The victim was found lying in the roadway with serious injuries and unable to communicate.
“With little evidence at the scene and no eyewitnesses, our Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) stepped in and quickly accessed nearby cameras, locating footage of the accident,” the department said. Within minutes, they identified the suspect vehicle and fed critical information to the officers on the ground.
“Thanks to their quick action, officers were able to track down the vehicle, which was found with front-end damage, and locate the driver, Anthony Anderson, at Piedmont Columbus Regional,” the department added.
Given the evidence and damage to the vehicle, Anderson was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Injury (Felony).
“This case would not have been solved so quickly—if at all—without the incredible work of the RTCC team,” the department said in their conclusion. “Their real-time support helped locate the suspect vehicle and driver within just one hour of the incident.”
