Subject injured in Lee County officer involved shooting
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating an officer involved shooting involving the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
The ordeal began around 9:10 P.M. on November 4th when the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the 100 block of Lee Rd. 482 in the Phenix City area of Lee County from a male subject stating that he was going to kill himself.
When communications officers tried to talk to the individual, who would not give them any information and hung up the phone.
Lee County Deputies quickly responded to the scene and were met by a concerned neighbor. The neighbor informed the deputies that a man named “Wesley” was seen walking around his residence with a handgun. Shortly thereafter, Lee County deputies observed the subject, later identified as 52-year-old Wesley Floyd Poole, outside of the residence with a gun to his head threatening to kill himself.
Lee County Negotiators were immediately notified and arrived on the scene to engage with Poole. Despite approximately an hour and a half of negotiation efforts, Poole pointed the gun at the deputies, prompting them to fire. Poole sustained a single gunshot wound to his shoulder.
First aid was administered on-site before Poole was transported to Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, for further treatment. He is currently listed in stable condition.
“After a close investigation, the firearm that Poole was brandishing was found to be a C02 powered pellet pistol that resembled a real firearm,” authorities said. “Alabama Law Enforcement Agency investigators were notified to conduct the investigation due to protocol by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to contact an outside agency when there is an officer involved shooting.”
