LaGrange Police investigate shooting, suspect arrested after pursuit
A shooting on Handley Street in LaGrange led to the arrest of a wanted suspect following a high-speed pursuit in Coweta County.
The shooting occurred around 10:16 A.M. on December 17, 2024, on Handley Street. A 25-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound.
“Officers immediately applied a tourniquet to McCord’s injuries as part of lifesaving efforts before he was transported by helicopter to an Atlanta-area hospital,” police said. Fortunately, his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The LaGrange Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to the scene and launched a thorough investigation. A FARO machine was used to scan and map the crime scene, gathering critical data for the ongoing inquiry. Detectives quickly identified the suspect vehicle and the shooter’s identity as 25-year-old Dequindre Langston.
A BOLO (Be On the Look Out) was issued for Langston and his vehicle to surrounding law enforcement agencies. At 11:07 AM, deputies from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Suppression Unit located the suspect vehicle and identified another car believed to be accompanying Langston. When deputies attempted to stop both vehicles, Langston’s Dodge Durango sped away, triggering a pursuit.
The chase was brought to a halt when Coweta County deputies executed a PIT (Precision Intervention Technique) maneuver, disabling Langston’s vehicle.
“The suspect vehicle rolled over during the PIT and the shooting suspect was taken into custody,” Coweta County authorities said. “Unknown to the Deputies at the time of the pursuit, they then discovered a juvenile in the back seat who sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for observation.”
Detectives from LaGrange responded to Coweta County to continue their investigation at the scene where the pursuit ended. Langston, already facing multiple charges in separate incidents, was arrested and is now in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
Langston was previously wanted for an aggravated assault and strong-arm robbery that occurred on August 27, 2024, on Town Center Drive. He was also wanted for felony battery (Family Violence Act), criminal trespass, and cruelty to a child in connection to a March 30, 2024, incident on Lindsey Street.
The LaGrange Police Department is asking anyone with additional information about the shooting or Langston’s whereabouts to contact Detective Horton or Detective Brown at 706-883-2603.
This investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
