Salem man killed in Lee County crash Friday morning
A Salem man has died following a single-vehicle crash in Lee County late Friday morning.
The crash, which involved a 2006 Nissan Maxima, occurred on Lee Road 158, about 13 miles east of Opelika city limits, around 10:57 A.M. on Friday, January 10, 2024.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says 19-year-old Devon Nicholas Bellar-Yates was critically injured when the 2006 Nissan Maxima he was driver left the roadway and overturned.
“Yates was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the Maxima,” the state agency said. “Yates was transported to East Alabama Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.”
This is the second fatal crash in Lee County on Friday. Earlier Friday morning, a single vehicle crash left a 19-year-old dead, and another male injured.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the crash.
