Missing person found deceased in east Columbus creek
Columbus police are investigating a potential accidental drowning of a missing person.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says 77-year-old Kumcha “Suki” Stapleman was reported missing at 9:30 P.M. on January 27, 2025, and was found in a creek off Warm Springs Road and Schomburg Road around 2 A.M. on January 28th.
Stapleman had a history of wandering off due to Alzheimer’s.
Bryan says police are tracking as accidental drowning but the Georgia Bureau of Investigations is requesting Stapleman’s body for an autopsy.
The next of kin has been notified and an investigation remains ongoing.
