Altercation leads to deadly LaGrange shooting Saturday night
LaGrange police are investigating a deadly shooting Saturday night.
Officers responded to the shooting call around 10:40 P.M. on March 22, 2025, at a residence in the 900 block of Mason Street. When officers arrived, they discovered that 22-year-old Zymerious Cofield had sustained gunshot wounds.
“Immediate life-saving efforts were initiated by both police and first responders, and Cofield was subsequently transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center,” police said. Despite these efforts, he later was pronounced deceased.
“Through the Criminal Investigations Division’s investigation, it was determined that the shooting occurred during an altercation between Cofield and Dewan Harden Jr.”, police added. Harden was located and apprehended by West Point Police and subsequently transported to the LaGrange Police Department. He was later moved to the Troup County Jail, where he was charged with murder.
This is the second murder in 48 hours in the city of LaGrange. Police worked a domestic-involved murder on Friday night that left one brother deceased and another brother arrested.
