Fort Benning holds planned prescribed burn
Fort Benning is conducting a planned prescribed burn within the S01, S02 and S09 Training Areas today. The burn will continue Sunday within the S04, S05 and S10 Training Areas.
The burn is taking place in the first Red Flag Warning of 2022 which means due to low humidity and high winds in addition to the dry fuels, any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. “Outdoor burning is not recommended,” the national weather service in Peachtree City said.
Fort Benning added to the announcement on their website that the wind is predicted to be from the Northwest Saturday and from the Southwest Sunday, and should keep smoke away from sensitive areas. Wind direction is a prediction and may change due to shifts in weather parameters throughout the day.
