Over 100-plus weapons turned in during gun buyback event in Columbus
80 people have been shot in Columbus so far this year – 11 of which have passed away. Top leaders of the Columbus Police Department had an idea… a gun buyback event.
The event, which was held at South Columbus United Methodist Church on Benning Drive, was supposed to last from 10 AM to 2 PM but was cut short at 11:35 AM due to the great response.
If you turned in any firearm, which was unloaded and with the safety on, you would receive a $250-dollar gift card. Authorities also add people who traded in the guns were able to remain anonymous.
Mayor Skip Henderson released Wednesday afternoon that over 100 weapons were taken off the streets due to the event. Henderson added, “Congratulations to the Columbus Georgia Police Department on a tremendously successful gun buyback program.“
