74-year-old man recovered from West Point Lake in early morning drowning incident
An ongoing investigation is underway after a 74-year-old Carrollton man was recovered from a Troup County lake.
Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Troup County Fire, and AMR were dispatched to the Yellowjacket access on West Point Lake, 1742 Cameron Mill Road for reports of a drowning, around 6:30 this morning.
Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley tells CNAW News 2, the drowning victim was identified as Randall Wilson and the family was notified.
Troup County Sheriff’s Office confirms Wilson and his brother went to the lake and had just put the boat into the water. Wilson stayed on the boat while Wilson’s brother parked the truck and the trailer. When Wilson’s brother returned to the ramp area he had noticed the boat floating in the water freely and Wilson was in distress, and went under.
This is the 3rd drowning in the Chattahoochee Valley area in more than a week. The first drowning involved a Valley man who drowned on Lake Harding in Lee County and the second drowning involved a toddler who drowned in a pool on Lee Road 348.
