Officials shoot, kill suspicious subject trying to get into Gadsden, Ala. elementary school
An investigation is underway by agents with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigations after an officer involved shooting occurred today, Thursday, June 9, in Gadsden, Alabama.
The incident began when an individual was attempting to make forcible entry into a marked Rainbow City patrol vehicle and also trying to open doors into Walnut Park Elementary School very aggressively. The principal noticed the subject and began a lockdown procedure and a passerby called in the suspicious subject.
A School Resource Officer with the Rainbow City Police Department was notified and attempted to stop the subject when the subject resisted and attempted to take the officer’s firearm.
Additional officers from the Gadsden Police Department responded to the scene to provide assistance and that is when the subject was injured by gunfire from officials and was pronounced deceased.
No children were involved or harmed over the course of the incident near Walnut Park Elementary School, that was holding nearly 3-dozen children for a summer school class.
“Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing,” a press release issued by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said. “Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office.”
