Columbus man dies days later after Bunker Hill Road shooting

Muscogee County Coroner’s Office confirmed Wednesday evening the second gunshot wound victim from a Christmas Eve shooting has died after days of being on life support.

The shooting took place in the 1600 block of Baker Plaza Drive, near Bunker Ridge Road on December 24, 2022, around 1:00 A.M. The shooting led to 24-year-old Tamareious Miller being pronounced deceased at 2:25 A.M. on the same day by Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon and a second victim being transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The second victim was later identified as 18-year-old Jewel Dantzler. Dantzler was declared brain dead but kept on life support to be an organ donor, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said. Dantzler was pronounced clinically deceased at 4:18 A.M. today, December 28, 2022.

Miller and Dantzler will be sent for an autopsy.

This is the 44th homicide this year in Columbus. Last year, Columbus had 73 homicides – the highest number in recent record. In the year of 2020, Columbus saw 46 homicides – the second highest number in recent record.
