Editorial policy
How we report the news for Columbus and the Chattahoochee Valley — and what you can expect from us.
How we report
We report what we can confirm. Before we publish, we check information with official sources — law enforcement, fire and rescue, schools, local governments — or with people who saw what happened. When a story is still developing, we say so and label it Breaking.
Updates
When a story develops, we don’t publish it again as a new article. We add an update — marked Update with the time — at the top of the original story, so the latest information and the full story stay in one place.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it, and we say what we changed in the story. To report an error, email [email protected] with a link to the story.
Crime and arrests
An arrest is not a conviction. We report charges as law enforcement states them, and everyone charged is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. If charges are dropped or someone is found not guilty and you let us know, we’ll update the story.
News tips
Anyone can send us a tip, including anonymously, by email or through the CNAW 2 app. We check every tip before we report on it.
Our use of AI
Our stories are reported and written by our newsroom. Two features on our website use artificial intelligence: the Key takeaways box at the top of some stories is written automatically by AI from our story, and Ask CNAW answers questions using the stories we’ve published. AI can make mistakes — if you spot one, please tell us.
Advertising and sponsors
CNAW 2 is supported by local advertising. Ads are labeled as advertisements, and sponsored coverage says who it was brought to you by. Advertisers don’t decide what we cover or how we cover it.
