Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman has released new details regarding a traffic stop turned chase which led to a fatal crash.

The incident began around 2 P.M. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, when Investigators with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit observed a known wanted fugitive and validated gang member, identified as Demon Shaquille Moore, operating a vehicle in the downtown Columbus area.

A traffic stop was attempted by Special Operations Patrol Units between Veterans and 15th/17th Street.

“Since Moore was positively identified, with an extensive violent criminal history, and showing no regard for the public in the immediate area, a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) was used to stop the pursuit,” Sheriff Countryman said. Moore lost control, crossed the median, overturned, and collided with another vehicle on Veterans Parkway.

“Moore then attempted to crawl over his girlfriend, who was trapped in the vehicle, to flee on foot to prevent himself from being apprehended,” Sheriff Countryman added. His girlfriend required medical assistance.

Moore was quickly apprehended by Investigators on scene. Special Operations Investigators rendered aid until the ambulance arrived to the scene.

Moore and the other two individuals involved in the collision were transported to Piedmont Midtown to be treated for their injuries. Since then, Moore has been released from Piedmont Hospital and booked in the Muscogee County Jail. Georgia State Patrol was called in by the MCSO to work the accident. The female passenger of the vehicle later succumbed to her injuries. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified her as 27-year-old Daizia Williams.

At the time of Moore’s arrest, he had outstanding warrants for the following:

- Felony Escape (Phenix City PD)
- Felony Violation Of Probation with an original charge of Aggravated Assault, and felony Possession Of A Firearm During The Commission Of A Crime. (MCSO)
