Arrest made in Columbus shooting which occurred on March 17th

Columbus police have made an arrest in connection to an investigation which was conducted regarding a shooting at a house on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 11:09 p.m.

Police said Jonathan Provo was identified as the suspect and warrants were issued for his arrest.

The Fugitive Unit from Columbus Police Department was watching a house in Phenix City, Alabama for a wanted suspect from Columbus on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

“They observed the suspect, Jonathan Provo, exit the house and enter a vehicle,” police added. The Russell County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and they assisted in making a traffic stop on the vehicle. Jonathan Provo was taken into custody without incident.

Provo signed a Waiver of Extradition and was brought back to Columbus.

Provo is charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault (6 counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime

He will have a hearing in Recorders Court on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
