A Columbus man is dead after being shot multiple times Sunday afternoon in a wooded area in the south end of the city.

The shooting occurred in a wooded, empty lot behind Liberty Commons apartment complex near Victory Drive and Airview Drive. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says the victim, later identified as 25-year-old Willi Malik Harris, Jr., was pronounced dead on scene at 4:44 P.M.

Violent Crimes investigators were called out to the scene. This the second deadly shooting on Victory Drive within 24 hours. The first shooting occurred Saturday evening nearly two miles away from the location of the Sunday afternoon shooting.

It’s unclear if any arrests were made in either homicide. This is the 16th homicide for 2024, the fifth this month, and the second this weekend.
