New details have been released in the Sunday evening deadly double shooting which took place at an apartment complex on Milgen Road in Columbus.

Columbus law enforcement and Fire/EMS officials responded to Building 4 at 4712 Milgen Road, which is the address to The Lowell Apartments, in regards to a shooting on Sunday, May 19, 2024 around 7 P.M. Two victims were located deceased.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified one of the victims as 23-year-old Kayla Jenkins. She was pronounced dead outside of the apartment building from multiple gunshot wounds at 7:15 P.M.

The second decedent was identified Monday afternoon by police. 27-year-old Deandre Jones was discovered inside one of the units suffering from a gunshot wound(s). Jones was also pronounced at 7:15 P.M.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirms the incident was a homicide-suicide. It is believed Jones, who drove all the way from Fairburn, Georgia, shot and killed Jenkins, before turning the gun on himself. Jenkins was a Columbus State University. Jones and Jenkins had been dating for a couple months.

There have been 19 homicides so far this year.
