5-year-old girl passes away, two injured in Americus shooting

UPDATE (February 10, 2024): The GBI has arrested and charged Ricky Martin with one count of Felony Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Aggravated Battery. Martin was booked into the Sumter County Jail.

The 19-year-old that was in critical condition at the hospital died due to his injuries.  He has been identified as Jotavis Roshon Leverette. The investigation is still active and ongoing.

Original story: Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating a shooting that left a 5-year-old dead and two injured Saturday night.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in the 600 block of Eastview Circle. Authorities who responded to the scene discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

5-year-old Peyton Brielle Roberts, of Americus, died after being taken to Phoebe Sumter Hospital.

A 19-year-old young man was also taken to Phoebe Sumter before being taken to another hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A third victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

“GBI agents are actively conducting interviews with witnesses as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” state investigators said. “No arrests have been made at this time.”
