“We won’t stop until the criminals do”. Those are the words of Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman following the arrest of a man wanted in a 2023 murder.

The investigation began after deputies responded to a deadly shooting on July 15, 2023, on Buena Vista Road. The victim Jimmy Hearns was found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.

After a year and several months of investigating, on March 17, 2025, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit arrested the wanted murder suspect identified as Dazuan Leshea Shelton.

Shelton was transported to the Muscogee County Jail and was charged with Felony Murder, Felony Aggravated Assault, and Felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

“A special thanks to all of the investigators who worked on this case to bring closure to this family,” authorities added. “The MCSO has a message for those who continue to commit violent crimes in our community – don’t do it.”

This case remains under investigation.
