Columbus man dies after shooting outside of Cusseta Road business

Columbus police are investigating a deadly shooting outside an American Legion building early Monday morning.

The shooting occurred around 1:45 A.M. on Monday, June 2, 2025, in the parking lot of the American Legion, located in the 4000 block of Cusseta Road.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirms 37-year-old Berry Tyree Benton was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Camous with a gunshot wound to the chest. Benton was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Columbus Police Department has confirmed their Violent Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
