A Valley woman is in jail tonight after police were called following a wooden cross fire.

Police responded to the Rehobeth Baptist Church on Hughley Road on October 6, 2025 after receiving reports of a white female attempting to set the wooden cross in the yard of the church on fire.
Police say the subject fled the scene before the fire could cause major damage to the cross.

Following an investigation, a suspect was developed and identified as Christy Lynn Wesson, who is also known as Christy Lynn Jones.
Wesson was booked into the Chambers County Jail without incident and charged with Cross or American Flag Burning and Desecration of a Venerated Object.
Wesson has multiple previous reported arrests: one in Valley for failure to appear-criminal trespass in 2022, one in Harris County for failure to appear and DUI in 2023, and one in Lanett for failure to pay in 2025.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
