CSU lecturer killed in accidental shooting at Lakebottom home

A Columbus State University lecturer was killed overnight after her roommate believed she was an intruder.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 Monday morning in the 1600 block of 17th Avenue, in the Lakebottom residential neighborhood, when the victim’s roommate mistook her for an intruder.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed 31-year-old Erica Blascom Anderson, of Indiana, was pronounced dead. Anderson was working as a lecturer in the Department of Theatre & Dance at Columbus State University.

Bryan said, “the details surrounding the shooting has led them to determine it to be an accidental shooting the led to her untimely and unfortunate death.”

Anderson will be sent for an autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation into the accidental deadly shooting remains ongoing by the Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit.
