Local cupcake shop owner killed in tragic Auburn crash Tuesday

A local cupcake shop owner and mother died Tuesday morning in a tragic Auburn crash.

The crash occurred around 8 A.M. central standard time on Tuesday, on East University Drive at Alfa Court involving a vehicle and a school bus.

Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton confirmed Jennifer Cooper, 42, was pronounced deceased at 8:09 A.M., from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police confirmed no additional injuries were reported.

Cooper is the owner of GiGi’s Cupcakes in Opelika, Alabama, and Columbus, Georgia, a mom of two children, and a former science teacher.

Cooper will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination.

The Auburn Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit responded, and an investigation was initiated. “The case remains active while investigators review all evidence and data available,” police said.
