Russell County and Lee County volunteer firefighters are on the scene working to extinguish a blaze on New Year’s Day.

The fire first began around 1:30 P.M. on Candlelight Drive off of U.S. Highway 80 W in the Dixie community of Russell County.

The fire reportedly involved a large amount of brush and a structure.

Dixie, Uchee Creek, Ladonia, and Crawford volunteer fire departments from Russell County and Beauregard volunteer fire department from Lee County are on scene, alongside HAYNES Ambulance and Russell County Sheriff’s Office.

Heavy equipment and personnel from Alabama Forestry Commission are also on scene. It is unclear what initially sparked the fire. Fire operations remain ongoing at this hour.
