Auburn police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex Monday afternoon.

Police responded to the 500 block of Shelton Mill Road for reports of shots fired around 2:18 p.m.

Police say when officers arrived on scene, a male suffering from a gunshot wound was found on scene. Our crews located the scene happening at Yugo Auburn North apartment complex.

The victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional for medical treatment.

Nearby schools, including Pick and Cary Woods elementary schools, were placed in a secure state as a precautionary measure. “This measure has since been lifted as investigators believe the suspect fled the area in a vehicle,” police said.

Auburn Police remain on the scene actively investigating, and the public is asked to continue to avoid the area until advised otherwise.
