A deadly shooting at a LaGrange apartment complex has left a child detained and a man dead.
Police responded to Wood Glen apartment complex on North Cary Street around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Officials say 20-year-old Nyquarious Gates was found on the scene with a gunshot wound to his body.
Gates was transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.
“The Criminal Investigations Division was requested and responded to the scene to conduct their investigation into the shooting,” police said.
The investigation revealed that a 12-year-old boy was mishandling a loaded firearm when it discharged striking the victim. The juvenile was taken into custody and detained.
