Four Barbour County residents are dead following a late-night crash in Pike County after authorities say the driver was attempting to elude law enforcement.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the single-vehicle crash occurred around 11:57 p.m. Friday, April 3, on Pike County Road 6628 near Pike County Road 6627, approximately nine miles east of Banks.
Troopers say 27-year-old Tykevious D. Russaw, of Eufaula, was driving a 2022 Hyundai Elantra when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Russaw was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three passengers were also killed in the crash. Authorities identified them as 27-year-old Robert D. Hall of Clayton, 24-year-old Quamay R. Richardson of Clayton, and a 17-year-old juvenile. Investigators say Hall and the juvenile were not wearing seat belts, were ejected, and died at the scene. Richardson, who was not ejected, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
ALEA officials say Russaw was attempting to flee from a state trooper with the agency’s Highway Patrol Division prior to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
