Opelika Fire Department awarded grant for firefighter safety equipment

The Opelika Fire Department has received a grant from the Mid South RC&D Council to help purchase six Rapid Intervention Team kits, equipment designed to improve firefighter safety during emergency operations.

According to the department, the kits are critical tools used in rescuing firefighters who become injured, trapped or otherwise in distress while working at emergency scenes. Officials said the new equipment will strengthen the department’s ability to respond effectively in high-risk situations.

“We are grateful to receive this grant and appreciate the support from the Mid South RC&D Council,” Fire Chief Shane Boyd said. “These Rapid Intervention Team kits will help ensure our firefighters have the equipment they need to protect one another while serving our community.”
