Two found dead after house fire in Chambers County

A late-night house fire in the Huguley community has left two people dead, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, to a reported structure fire at a residence located at 4327 20th Street SW. When first responders arrived on scene, the home was already fully engulfed in flames, preventing immediate entry.

Firefighters from the Huguley, Lanett, and East Alabama Fire Departments responded to assist in battling the blaze. Crews worked to bring the fire under control before conducting a search of the residence.

Once the fire was extinguished, authorities discovered the bodies of two individuals inside the home. They have been identified as 55-year-old Donald Ray Gough and 46-year-old Angela Jean Gough.

Investigators with the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office, along with Chambers County Sheriff’s Office personnel, are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
