Lee County Sheriff’s Office honors 16 employees, community group at awards ceremony

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office honored members of its agency and a local organization earlier today during an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding service, bravery, and dedication to the community.

In total, sixteen employees were recognized, along with one community group for its continued support.

Sheriff Jay Jones praised the recipients, highlighting their commitment to public safety and willingness to serve in dangerous situations.

“One of the most significant actions we take is to recognize the selfless service of the men and women who dedicate themselves to serve others,” Jones said. “These award recipients represent the very best of their profession and even when placed in situations of high risk, they stand directly in harm’s way to protect the citizens of Lee County. We are very proud of them.”

Top Honors Recognized

Several employees were recognized for their performance over the past year:

  • Employee of the Quarter (July – September 2025): Deputy Chad Stancil
  • Employee of the Quarter (October – December 2025): Taran Sumner
  • Employee of the Quarter (January – March 2026): Corporal Josh Walton
  • 2025 Employee of the Year: Investigator Shawn McDevitt

Prestigious Awards

  • 2025 James Anderson Award: Sergeant Justin Johnson
    • Established in 2010 in partnership with the City of Smiths Station, this award honors a member who exemplifies dedication to public safety and service, reflecting the legacy of Deputy James W. Anderson.

Service & Bravery Awards

  • Sheriff’s Distinguished Medal:
    Sergeant Justin Johnson, Investigator Matt Parks, Deputy Daulton Garnett, Deputy AJ Hussey, Deputy Vincent Lopez, Deputy Trey Oswalt
    • Awarded to those who faced significant risk of injury in the line of duty.
  • Sheriff’s Meritorious Service Award:

    • Given for going above and beyond normal duties to benefit victims and enhance public safety.
  • Life Saving Medal:
    Lieutenant Jacob Cook, Corporal Josh Walton, Investigator Andrew Hammond, Deputy Jeremy Brightwell, Deputy Scott Cone, Deputy Jonathan Kennedy, Deputy Manuel Stone
    • Honors extraordinary actions that directly contributed to saving a human life in critical situations.
  • Community Recognition Award: Punishers LEMC Big Swamp
    • Presented to a local organization for its exceptional service and ongoing support of the Sheriff’s Office and the Lee County community.

The ceremony served as a reminder of the daily sacrifices made by law enforcement and the strong partnerships that help support public safety efforts across Lee County.
