Georgia fugitive and registered sex offender arrested in Lee County, faces additional Alabama charges

A registered sex offender wanted out of Georgia on multiple felony warrants was arrested in Lee County earlier this week and now faces additional charges in Alabama, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said they received a tip from the Alabama Fusion Center on May 4, 2026, regarding 21-year-old Terry Huggins III. Authorities were informed that Huggins had outstanding felony warrants in Carroll County, Georgia, for probation violations and violations of the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act (SORNA).

According to officials, the violations stem from a 2021 child molestation conviction through Carrollton, Georgia. Investigators believed Huggins was living in Lee County as a fugitive.

Following an investigation, Lee County investigators, along with members of the United States Marshals Service, located and arrested Huggins without incident at a relative’s residence in the 100 block of Lee Road 515 in the Phenix City area of Lee County.

Authorities said Huggins, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, was additionally charged in Lee County with an Alabama felony SORNA violation for prohibited residence locations. Investigators allege he was residing or conducting overnight visits in a location involving minors, which is prohibited under Alabama law for registered sex offenders.

Huggins is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Facility on a $10,000 bond while awaiting extradition to Georgia. Officials also stated that federal SORNA charges are expected as the investigation continues.
